CAMILLE ZEITOUNI'S INTEGRATED PROJECT |
For our graduating year, grade 11 students are obliged to create a project called an integrated project that should bring everything that we learn through high school together.
According to the online Merriam Webster dictionary, mathematics is “the science of number, quantities, and shapes and the relations between them.” Though some would think math is not that important and ask: “why do I have to learn this?”, I would beg to differ. Mathematics is used all around the world in many different fields such as engineering, finance, medicine and natural science just to name a few. Mathematics is also used in your every day life. An example of this would be when you do a simple thing called counting. Mathematics is important, not only because of all the applications it is used for but also for the knowledge it brings us. To quote Galileo: “The great book of nature can be read only by those who know the language in which it was written. And that language is mathematics,” meaning, so much of the world around can only be understood with mathematics. In addition, so much of humanity’s progress comes from the progress made in mathematics. Personally, I love math. I find it interesting because I can relate it to different areas in my life and because I believe it to be in some ways fun. In addition, I know many people who will agree with me when I say you feel a sense of pride and thrill when getting the correct answer for a math question. This is because it is human nature to count, organize and understand.
I decided to do my project on math because of my profound love for it. The project was split into two parts: an essay and a product. My product is this website and my essay is included under the page History of Mathematics.
